There are some wonderful day trips you can take from Westport. Spend an entire day taking a climb of Croagh Patrick, Ireland’s holy mountain.

Louisburgh is a neighbouring town where some of the best surfing beaches and loop walks exist. Achill Island, which is a 45 minute drive from Westport, is also connected by the Greenway, where you can cycle to and from. Achill is home to Keel beach, a surf haven and one of the five Blue Flag beaches, and houses the famous ‘Deserted Village’. Leenane village where you can see the largest Fjord in Ireland in Killary Harbour is only twenty minutes drive from Acorn Wood. Clare Island is one of the largest islands in Clew Bay and has been inhabited for 5,000 years where Grace O’ Malleys castle sits.
